I’m Taking Christmas Back!

You may be wondering, Who took Christmas?

The answer is me!

In recent years, Christmas time has lost some of its joy for me.

Now let me try to explain before you Christmas lovers (one dear friend in my church counts down to Christmas all year) get too upset with me.

I’m not sure when or how my thoughts of Christmas changed. I just know that over the last few years, I have taken little joy in the holiday and all that goes with it. Of course, I loved the reason for the holiday and wanted to celebrate the birth of my Savior! It was all the other “stuff” that discouraged me…

The commercialization…

The busyness…

The decorating…

The political correctness of people not being allowed to say, “Merry Christmas”…

The Christmas music and displays right after Halloween…

The shopping…

And let’s not forget the added things about the holiday that I dread because I’m a teacher…

The craziness of my class at school…

The elves on the shelves which lead to the questions of why some kids don’t have one…

The misguided parents who threaten their kids with the naughty list…

But this year as I put up my tree and downloaded a new Christmas album (Glory to God in the Highest by The Kingdom Heirs if you’re looking for one) on iTunes, I decided it was going to be different. I wasn’t going to allow all those things to ruin the holiday that was to be set aside for the birth of my Savior. I was going to enjoy the Reason for the Season and not dwell on what society has made it out to be.

So here I sit enjoying the view of my Christmas decorations…

Please ignore the physical therapy bands on the pole…I’m still recovering from shoulder surgery!

I even took a risk and played Christmas music in my classroom yesterday, and the kids didn’t get any crazier than they already are this time of year! 🙂

I hope you are enjoying this Christmas season!
