A Jeweled Fly???

Hey there! I’m officially on summer break!

We had our last day of school on Wednesday. It is always a bittersweet day. If you don’t work in a public school system, you might not realize that some kids are not really excited for summer break. And no, not because they love school so much. It is often because school provides the structure and routine that makes it a “safe place” for them. It was absolutely heart-breaking to see some of our kiddos struggling so much this year. It also tugs at my heart to see our 2nd graders at our building for the last time, but in my new position I get to see them at the other building too so it was a little easier this year.

I wanted to share a bit about my recent trip to Dexter, Kansas. The church in Dexter had about 35 ladies who went through There’s a Fly in my Tea last fall. It is such an encouragement to me to know there were that many ladies in a small community willing to gather on a weekly basis to study God’s Word! I had been in constant contact with the group’s leader and prayed for them as they studied, so when she asked me if I would speak at their Mothers and Others Luncheon I was excited to meet these ladies.

These ladies had such a sweet spirit and spoiled me rotten. I don’t know why I was surprised to come away feeling so blessed. It seems to me that when you pray that you can be a blessing to someone, you always end up being blessed! A few of the ladies shared how the Lord had been working in their life through the study and that is always such an encouragement to me. They gave me these fun gifts:

The large flies were used as props throughout their study and the “Jeweled” fly was because the theme of the luncheon was Jewels. So creative and clever! I absolutely love them!

Speaking of that jeweled fly, it was interesting that the theme of my lesson on wisdom ended up also being related to how we walk our Christian walk in front of others, or the testimony we have before them (and if you don’t know what that has to do with a fly, you really need to get the study ;-)).

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Thank you again, Dexter ladies, for allowing me to be with you. Your love for the Lord and His Word is a blessing to me! Keep walking in wisdom and watch out for those pesky flies!
