Moms of Littles – Homeschooling Tips

Meet my friend, Amber, and her sweet family:

Amber is a former teacher and Steve actually works with me. He is an amazing special education teacher! These are their sweet kiddos, Sade, 12, Makiah, 12, Zackary, 11, Demarius, 10, and Kylie, 6. The Lord has blessed and grown their family through adoption.

I’m thankful for Amber being willing to share some homeschooling tips with you!

After spending 7 years as a public school teacher, the Lord led us to have me stay home and homeschool our children. Homeschooling has been challenging at times, but it is so rewarding. I am thankful for this opportunity!

*keep your focus on Christ

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to the Father which is in secret; and they Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

-start your day right, in His Word, spending time with him

-You will notice a huge (negative) difference if you neglect your time with Him.

*don’t compare yourself to others or your children to others’ children

Romans 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

-we each have different strengths and learn at different paces/styles

*find a schedule that works for your family and stick to it-if it needs adjusting, then do so

I Corinthians 10:31b …whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God

-do give it some time to work before you decide its not for you

-try to schedule independent work time for older students while you work with younger students one on one

-also scheduling in chore time can help around the house!

*don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice from someone who has, or is doing it (somebody helped us along the way)

Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the mulitude of counsellors there is safety.

-sometimes this advice and encouragement is just what we need to get motivated to keep going.

-there are homeschool discounts/days and used book sales that only other homeschool moms know of

*don’t spend too much time on Pinterest (while there are some GREAT ideas there, you may find yourself with a lot of pins and no plans)

Proverbs 18:9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

-this goes for any social media

-there are SOOOOO many ideas and blogs out there, it can become ovewhelming

-they can be very helpful just don’t let it consume all of your time (set a limit and stick to it)

*and lastly remember you can do this!! If God called you to it, He will get you through it.

Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
