Pullin’ Weeds, Plantin’ Seeds

Hey there! I am so excited to share a little about my latest Bible study, Pullin’ Weeds, Plantin’ Seeds: Maintaining Your Spiritual Life with you. This study has been on my heart for MANY years and as the release date* approaches (and I begin taking pre-orders), I thought I should share with you how it all began.

Those of you who have done the study, There’s a Fly in my Tea, know that I love when God gives me a good visual picture when He teaches me something from His Word. You also know there was a time I was writing inspirational fiction and the Lord began prompting me to write nonfiction. A Bible study. I felt completely unqualified and overwhelmed by the idea and didn’t obey His leadership. My disobedience led me to take a break from ANY writing as the ideas seemed to “dry up.”

Fast forward several years, and the Lord had laid There’s a Fly in my Tea on my heart. Through a series of events, I could no longer ignore the call to write nonfiction. I pushed my feelings of inadequacy and fears aside and began writing. There’s a Fly in my Tea was released on February 27, 2017.

God’s Timing is Perfect.

Shortly after that, the Lord reminded me of Pullin’ Weeds, Plantin’ Seeds. That study from so long ago that I was supposed to write. I shared a letter I wrote to my readers on November 25, 2017 here.

This picture of pullin’ weeds, plantin’ seeds in my spiritual life started with the Parable of the Soils. As the Lord spoke to my heart through that parable many years ago, it came alive as I began tending my own garden. The mental picture of pulling weeds of sin and planting seeds of faith was something that I would not forget. In fact, it inspired me to take the idea to my Pastor’s wife and begin a ladies newsletter with this same title. We have been producing that newsletter for the last 15 years. What does that tell you about how long the Lord has been working on my heart in this area? 😉

The truth is the spiritual process of pulling weeds and planting seeds will never be finished. The Lord has even used the chapters in the study to work in my own heart multiple times over the last couple years as I studied, wrote, studied some more, wrote some more, and when rereading to edit and prepare for publication!

So…here’s a peek at the back cover copy:

Pullin’ weeds, plantin’ seeds.

It’s a process any gardener knows well and is necessary for frutifulness.

In our Christian lives, it represents the continual process of spiritual growth. Those pesky weeds represent the sin in our life, threatening to grow rapidly out of control and choke out any hope we have of bearing spiritual fruit. In Pullin’ Weeds, Plantin’ Seeds we work to identify and attach the sink that creeps into our lives and turn our focus to planing seeds of faith in our own lives and in the lives of others.

Review from Mrs. Twila Jones (my pastor’s wife):

“In a rapidly changing world, one in which much of what we rely on and even trust in is changing by the moment; it is essential to know and be reminded that God’s Word is settled forever in Heaven.

This Bible study is grounded in the Word. With clarity and conviction, the author teaches about the Weeds that choke out what we know about the Word, and the Seeds that enable us to remain focused and faithful to the Word and our Saviour. She then carefully proceeds to do an excellent job of using the Word of God to instruct the reader in the steps needed to “pull those weeds” and “plant those seeds.” This Bible study will be of tremendous value and benefit to anyone who sincerely desires to obey God and honestly seeks to dig deeper into His Word. My prayer is that each reader will find much nourishment and satisfaction in PULLING WEEDS AND PLANTING SEEDS!”
