2020.

As I sat down with my new notebook (remember how I love to do that?), I started to praise the Lord for the blessings this year has brought me.

Then I considered the challenges this year has presented.

Lockdowns. Illness. Quarantine. Isolation. Struggle. Division. Frustration. Heartache. Loss.

My pen hovered over the page.

Could I, with an honest heart, pen my thanksgiving for the challenges of 2020?

My hesitation lasted only a moment as I remembered the blessings.

More time at home brought me more time to invest (my word for 2020) in eternal things. It allowed me to be still. To seek the Lord more than I had in recent years. Through this extra time with Him, He gave me a renewed passion for His Word and spending time with Him in prayer. It allowed me to develop a deeper relationship with Him. He has shown Himself mighty and faithful. Caring and loving.

It truly is with great joy that I come to the end of 2020. Praising Him for the blessings–and yes, the challenges–of this year. I look to the new year with quiet confidence, knowing that all things work together to accomplish His plan.

And with that knowledge, I wait.

According to Strong’s Concordance, the word wait suggests the anxious, yet confident, expectation by God’s people that He will intervene on their behalf. Webster’s 1828 explains that to wait is to rest in expectation and patience.

Throughout this year–and all the things that I have not liked about it–the Lord has been prompting me to wait. To wait for Him to accomplish His plan. To wait for answered prayer. To wait for wisdom and direction in making decisions. To wait for deliverance. To wait for His glorious return.

That’s why I’ve chosen the word WAIT as my focus for 2021. In just a few days, my study of the word as it is used in the Bible has already been a blessing and I’ve only scratched the surface of what it can mean to wait on the Lord.

Hope.

Rest.

Endure.

Patience.

Confidence.

Expectation.

Trust.

What are you focusing on with the Lord in 2021? I’d love to hear from you! 🙂
